Some benefitting Rice farmers of ABIA STATE FOOD SECURITY (NG CARES RESULT AREA 2) of Ministry of agriculture have expressed their gratitude to the Federal and State Governments for their intervention in ameliorating the plight of the farmers affected by Covid 19 in the State.
The rice farmers drawn mainly from the rice belt of Abia State included those from Ofeme in Umuahia North , Igbere and Ozuitem in Bende and Nkporo in Ohafia LGAs. The farmers received assets meant for rice cultivation as part of the ongoing ABIA STATE FOOD,SECURITY (NG CARES RA2) Project
Speaking at the occasion the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Sir Charles Agbara commended the efforts of the government in boosting agriculture. ” we need more of such interventions as food is essential for human development and food Security. Furthermore, he prayed for bumper harvest for the farmers this year, adding that the new Knapsak sprayers will energise farmers produce more.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator FOOD SECURITY RESULT AREA 2, Pastor Ibe Johnson said the farmers should expect more as the day goes bye. He commended the facilitators for doing a great job which has led to the production of Community Action Recovery Plan (CARP) upon which the farmers eligible for the assets were considered.
He said ” these farmers are invited because part of our implementation activities include the DLI 2.3 which has to do with provision of farm agricultural assets to vulnerable farmers. “What you are receiving today is a part of assets to be provided for rice farmers in the project”. More assets will come as more funds get released.
In a vote of thanks, one of the beneficiaries Ejem Iroh Ukeh from Etitiama Nkporo said ” We thank the government for this,It’s a good step from the Governor Okezie Victor Okpeazu PhD, Nigeria and indeed Abia will grow big because God fearing people are in government”. More than fifty farmers were given Knapsak sprayers on the occasion which was witnessed by Project Management staff and other staff of the agency.
